Nanomnia

Nanomnia Srl is a nano-biotech innovative startup company founded in Feb 2017, and develops on-demand, tailor-made nanoparticle-based solutions for the delivery of a specific active compounds. Nanomnia aims to identify precision biotechnologies in agriculture for a better pest management, combining innovative methods with environmental protection.
It has been estimated that:
•global food production must increase by 70–100% by 2050 to meet the demand of the growing population explosion
•Agricultural production keeps to be challenged by a large number of insect pests, diseases, and weeds accounting for 40% losses
•Less than 0.1% of the pesticides applied in the field actually reach the target, with the remainder being available to cause adverse effects in non-target organisms.
Nanomnia produces organic, biodegradable and biocompatible nanoparticles, for encapsulation of active compounds, such as fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides, to be selectively vehicled in plants. Nanoparticles increase the efficiency of crop treatments, further reducing their volatilization and decreasing toxicity and environmental contamination in crops.
Main advantages are achieved:
-Higher plant assimilation;
-Improved plant physiologic performance,with higher yield and quality of fruits;
-Controlled release, constant and optimized during time;
-Higher specificity and targeting of plant diseases treatments;
-Reduction of the amount of active compound needed to achieve effects;
-Increased resistance to UV degradation and leach;
-Less dispersion in soil and groundwater.
Nanoparticles are developed by Nanomnia with different biodegradable and biocompatible polymers that do not cause any type of environmental contamination, and are stable during their storage.
Thus agri-nanotechnology holds the promise of controlled release of agrochemicals and site targeted delivery of various macromolecules needed for improved plant resistance to disease, efficient nutrient utilization and enhanced plant growth. The efficacy of nanoparticles can therefore be tested in terms of physiological and quality performance, and effects on plant under the genomic and metabolomic profiles, with final reduction of environmental impact and economic costs.
We plan to patent our encapsulating solution within Dec 2018.
This tailor-made method allows higher specificity in terms of the plant tissue to be reached, and also to reduce dispersion and costs, with higher biocompatibility, biodegradation and enhanced biodisponibility.
EFFICACY: the same effect is achieved with a dose which is 10 to 100 time lower than non-encapsulated compund
EFFICIENCY: controlled release and prolonged action during time
SPECIFICITY: breakdown of soil dispersion, and protection from degradation due to environmental factors (UV, leaching).Our nanoparticle-producing method is based on organic material to encapsulate, as in a shell, any kind of compound in a specific way, according to the chemical-physical properties of the compound itself. Encapsulation is thus possible for many active compounds for crop treatments in precision agricolture : fertilizers, biostimulants, pesticides, insetticides, herbicides. In one sentence: every compound has its own encapsulant shell, enabling full exploitation of compound actions.We will first target the italian market of crop treatments, with italian value of 978M in 2015 (source: Agrofarma Federchimica), and then will act in EU and globally with developing agritech projects.
